And in occasion of stronger winds that creates nice little kickers it can be used to perform the tricks. Flatter water is the perfect conditions for beginners, intermediate and obviously advanced riders who can progress faster in a safer conditions. Your hotels beach front in Playa del Carmen got also waist deep water that is the only spot in Playa del Carmen with shallow water for 80-100 meters that provides great conditions to practice your kitesurfing skills and progress in 100% safety very quickly. Flatter water stays all day. It almost to easy to learn there. Our students ride upwind within few days of lessons from complete beginner.
Due to the availability of sparsely populated and flat open terrain, the Yucatan located in eastern Mexico is region of highly directional wind that reflects the influence of the winds coming from Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico.

Also the atmospheric layers over eastern seas of Yucatan creates thermal winds. At the coastal sites thermal winds come predominantly from over the sea.

The best season for kiteboarding is from October till May. It is a period dominated by steady north winds, called El Norte.

Isla Blanca is a unique place where is possible to ride at any wind direction.

The average wind speed is around 16knots, and usually increasing towards the end of the day in the late afternoon. The most commonly used kite sizes 12, with some occasional 14-15, depending on your weight. It is always good to bring big kites for light wind session. But when the north wind kick in (average twice a month for few days) you will need your 9.

Normally the water temperature is about 24C degrees. The air temperature around 30C. We ride there only in a board shorts and bikinis. But you would need a protection from a strong sun. We highly recommend you to buy waterproof sun cream with SPF 50+.

In occasion when north winds kicks you would need your wetsuit. North winds are really common in the winter season.

Normally we dont need a rescue, because the water is shallow and kiting conditions are very safe. But on those rare occasions you need a rescue, we do have a jet-ski and a life guards located in the tower right at the hotels beach.

Playa del Carmen is a coastal resort town in Mexico, along the Yucatán Peninsula’s Riviera Maya strip of Caribbean shoreline. In the state of Quintana Roo, it’s known for its palm-lined beaches and coral reefs. Its Quinta Avenida pedestrian thoroughfare runs parallel to the beach, with blocks of shops, restaurants and nightspots ranging from laid-back bars to dance clubs.

Playa del Carmen, now the third-largest city in Quintana Roo, ranks up there with Tulum as the Riviera’s trendiest cities. Sitting coolly on the lee side of Cozumel, the town’s beaches are jammed with super-fit Europeans.

Strolling down Playa del Carmen’s pedestrian corridor, Quinta Avenida (keen-ta; 5 Avenida), is a fabulous game of see-and-be-seen.

The town is ideally located: close to Cancún’s international airport, but far enough south to allow easy access to Cozumel, Tulum, Cobá and other worthy destinations. The reefs here are excellent, and offer diving and snorkeling close by. Look for rays, moray eels, sea turtles and a huge variety of corals. The lavender sea fans make for very picturesque vistas.

With daily cruise-ship visitors, Playa’s tourist center now feels like a mass-tourism destination, but it manages to retain its European chic, and one need just head several blocks west of the main strip to catch glimpses of the nontouristic side of things.

If arriving from the USA you will need to fly to Fortaleza via Sao Paolo or Rio de Janeiro, and flying from European cities with TAP Portugal via Lisbon (costs can vary 700-900 €). In order to save money and fly comfortably, plan ahead and check your options. We will be happy to help in finding the best solution.
Brazil follows a reciprocal visa system, so if Brazilian nationals need a visa to enter your country, it will be necessary for you to have a visa to enter Brazil.

At the time of writing, visas are not required for nationals of EU countries for stays of up to 90 days. Nationals of Australia, Canada and the USA need visas. When in doubt please check with the Brazilian consulate in your country. All travelers must be in possession of onward or return tickets. Make sure you have least 6 valid months left in your passport.

Outside of Fortaleza it is difficult to withdraw money, so it is advisable to get Brazilian reals preferably in the comfort of your home country before arrival or at Fortaleza airport. There are no ATMs in Lagoinha. To withdraw you need to go to Paraipaba, a nearby village.
7m, 9m and 11m kites should cover your needs, for a lightweight or female riders, kites should be one or two sizes smaller.Don’t forget a surf board, if it forms part of your collection.

High sun factor and sunblock for the lips are essential, which is not the case for neoprene. We, however, prefer a shorty or a thin neoprene jacket to a lycra, as even though the ocean and air temperatures are high, it can get a bit chilly after spending many hours on water in the company of strong winds. The choice is yours.

Standard European plugins.

Besides free wi-fi on the square up to two hours daily, there are two internet cafés. Most pousadas offer wi-fi connection free of charge. Do not expect high speed internet here.

Expect to spend around 20 € per day for meals.

Small bars and restaurants around the square offer snacks, skewers, pastel and the typical “arroz e feijao” (rice and beans), caipirinhas etc. at very affordable prices.

If you are looking for a nice dinner out, Pousada do Sol has a great restaurant, where one portion feeds two people, as well as Viva Mar at the beach.

You will find açaí, a delicious tropical fruit snack, at Kite Point at the beach, or Book Café inside the pousada Mar A Vista.
